As an incentive to get taxpayers to e-file, the IRS has announced a new and improved version of its refund lookup tool, “Where’s My Refund?” When you e-file, you can receive personalized refund information within 24 hours after the IRS receives your return. Taxpayers can access their refunds via the mobile app, IRS2Go or on the IRS web page. All you’ll need is your social security number, your filing status and the exact dollar amount of the refund you’re expecting.

The tool also includes a tracker that takes you through your refund’s progress. It will tell you when your return is received, approved and finally sent. Your refund date will be sent as soon as the IRS processes your return and approves your refund. The IRS expects most refunds to be in issued in less than 21 days.
