Michelle joined the Abeles & Hoffman team in 2018. As a manager in the firm’s Tax Department, her focus is on preparing income tax returns for corporate manufacturing clients and high net-worth individuals. She is the go-to person in the firm for large corporate income tax returns that include consolidations and state and local income tax questions. Michelle also specializes in fixed assets and depreciation tax law. During COVID she specialized in knowing and understanding the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
Prior to joining Abeles & Hoffman, Michelle amassed fifteen years of valuable accounting experience. She gained her first professional experience as an intern with UHY Advisors, then went on to join their team fulltime. After almost four years, she left to serves as senior tax accountant with Insituform Technologies. Next, she spent six years serving Emerson Electric as a senior accountant and then manager before joining Nidec Americas Holding Corporation as a tax manager. She left Nidec in 2018 to join Abeles & Hoffman.
An analytical and detailed professional, Michelle constantly seeks to engage in activities where she can utilize her unique experiences and abilities to contribute to overall business operations. She once helped a client reduce its tax liability by properly depreciating their fixed assets. In another instance, she worked with a corporation to correctly analyze their trial balance activity and obtain a proper 263(a) calculation.
Michelle’s love of numbers was her inspiration for pursuing a career in accounting. She credits her success in the field to a combination of hard work, perseverance, and the support of her amazing family. Growing up, she spent the summers working on her grandparents’ farm in Alabama. This experience taught her valuable lessons about working hard and in an ethical manner—lessons that she constantly draws upon to this day.
Throughout her childhood, Michelle lived in both St. Louis, Missouri and Troy, Alabama. She eventually settled permanently in St. Louis, where she lives with her husband, five stepchildren, and two dogs. Her favorite thing about where she currently lives is the opportunity to serve her community through several different organizations with which she volunteers. In her free time, Michelle enjoys reading, taking long walks, helping her husband with his construction company, and playing with her dogs.
